Burnout, Intuition, and Why Your Body Isn’t the Enemy

There’s a version of burnout that doesn’t look dramatic at first.

It looks productive. Reliable. High functioning. It looks like being the person everyone can count on. The one holding everything together while quietly disconnecting from themselves in the process.

In this special guest interview on the Stress Less, Joy More Podcast with Doris Polak Kuder and Paula Nowak, Jenn Walker opened up about the deeper layers underneath burnout, hyper-achievement, intuition, and the nervous system patterns many people don’t even realize they’re running.

One of the most powerful moments in the conversation came when Jenn described realizing her worth had quietly become attached to performance.

Not consciously, but subconsciously.

As a highly sensitive child, she learned early that achievement created safety, approval, and emotional regulation in the people around her. Good grades made one parent happy. Sports made another proud. Without realizing it, she became incredibly skilled at earning love through output.

And honestly, society rewards that pattern for a very long time. Until your body eventually says: absolutely not anymore!

Jenn shared how adrenal fatigue became the interruption she didn’t know she needed. Not because her body was betraying her, but because it was trying to protect her from continuing to override herself.

That part lands deeply for a lot of people. Especially high achievers who have normalized exhaustion so thoroughly they no longer even recognize it as exhaustion.

One of the most refreshing parts of the conversation was the shift away from treating burnout like a personal failure. Instead, Jenn framed it as communication. The body constantly signaling what’s aligned, what’s forced, what’s sustainable, and what absolutely is not.

The conversation also explored the difference between what Jenn calls “manifestor consciousness” and “channelling consciousness.”

Manifesting often still contains effort, control, pushing, strategizing, and trying to force life into a very specific shape. Channelling consciousness feels different. It’s responsive instead of forceful. Present instead of controlling. Open instead of gripping.

Not passive. Just deeply attuned.

Jenn described it as following breadcrumbs rather than micromanaging every outcome.

There was also a fascinating discussion around intuition, the subconscious mind, and how much of our daily life runs automatically. Most people think they need to think harder to create change, but Jenn explained that the subconscious mind drives the overwhelming majority of habits, behaviours, emotional reactions, and identity patterns.

Which is why logic alone often doesn’t create transformation.

You can consciously want peace while subconsciously being wired for hypervigilance. You can consciously want rest while subconsciously equating stillness with laziness.

That contradiction exhausts people.

The conversation moved into practical nervous system awareness too. Jenn shared a simple but surprisingly powerful challenge: spend seven days simply noticing your thoughts, sensations, and reactions with appreciation instead of resistance.

Not fixing. Not over-analyzing. Not making meaning out of every emotional wave like it’s a hostage negotiation with your nervous system. Just noticing.

Because what we resist tends to intensify. What we allow often begins to soften.

Another beautiful thread throughout the episode was the idea of “vacation you.”

That version of yourself who suddenly becomes playful, curious, present, connected, relaxed, and alive while travelling somewhere new.

Jenn challenged the idea that this version only exists on vacation.

What if she’s available now?

What if your nervous system simply needs more novelty, presence, wonder, and permission?

Toward the end of the conversation, Jenn also shared the deeply moving story of her mother’s passing in early 2025 and the profound level of peace, humour, acceptance, and wisdom she embodied through the process.

It brought the entire conversation back to what really matters.

✨ Connection.

✨ Presence.

✨ Aliveness.

Not endlessly proving yourself.
